Facebook had been having a bad time. First came the series of reports that had been leaked by the whistleblower. Then it was the power outage one of the biggest ones in a long time that left the people confused and Facebook lost a lot of money and their stock also went down.
However, at the end of the day, the issue had been addressed by Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday. The CEO had finally spoken on the matter on which there was radio silence on his part.
“At the heart of all these accusations that have been made to Facebook there is this idea that we prioritize profit over safety and well-being,” Zuckerberg said in a post on his Facebook profile. “That is just not true.

Zuckerberg had not spoken about the matter before. The wall street journal came out almost one month ago and this is the first time that he had openly mentioned this matter and defended Facebook in the process.
Mark Zuckerberg had claimed that Facebook does not prioritize profit before the safety of its users. This is completely opposite of what the whistleblower is saying and it seems to be way different from the story that we got from the leaked documents on which the journal was based.
The story goes on to say about the numerous problems that are there on Facebook and the company is pretty well aware of it but they do nothing in order to solve the problem. Mark has said a lot more too.
“Of everything that had been published about Facebook, I am very much particularly focused on the questions that had been raised about our work with kids,” Zuckerberg said.
“I have personally spent a lot of time thinking about and reflecting on the kinds of experiences that I would want my kids and other kids of other parents to have online, and I must say that the conclusion I came to is that it’s very important to me that everything we build in the company is safe for kids.”
Mark also said that many of the claims against them also does not make any sense. He does not go ahead and say and refer to the whistleblower directly but he claims that the fact that they push out content in order for profit and do not care about the users is very illogical and it does not make any sense.
Mark Zuckerberg’s Stance on User Safety
Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Facebook (now Meta Platforms, Inc.), has repeatedly emphasized the importance of user safety on his platform.
He has acknowledged that maintaining a safe and secure environment is essential for the long-term success of the company.
Zuckerberg has committed to addressing issues like misinformation, hate speech, and harmful content through improved content moderation and policy enforcement.
Maintaining Control of Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg’s control over Facebook has been a defining feature of the company’s history. His ownership of a substantial number of Class B shares with superior voting rights has enabled him to maintain a tight grip on the company’s decision-making processes.
This arrangement has raised questions about corporate governance and the concentration of power within the organization.
The Eduardo Saverin Controversy
The early days of Facebook were marked by a significant controversy involving Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin, one of the platform’s co-founders.
Saverin’s role in the company diminished, and he was eventually removed from the Facebook team. The dispute centered on issues of equity and ownership, ultimately leading to legal battles and a financial settlement between the parties involved.
Sean Parker’s Involvement
Sean Parker, the co-founder of Napster, played a pivotal role in Facebook’s early growth. He became Facebook’s first president, helping the company expand its user base and influence.
Although Parker had an important role in shaping the platform’s success, his tenure was not without its controversies. He left Facebook in 2005, reportedly selling a portion of his stake for a substantial sum.
Zuckerberg’s Control and Removal
Mark Zuckerberg’s control over Meta Platforms, Inc. (formerly Facebook, Inc.), is deeply entrenched due to the company’s dual-class share structure.
Class B shares, owned by Zuckerberg, come with enhanced voting rights, effectively giving him control over important corporate decisions.
While shareholders have occasionally raised concerns about Zuckerberg’s power, it remains challenging to remove him from a leadership position due to this structure.
Control Over Meta
Meta Platforms, Inc., the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, continues to be under Mark Zuckerberg’s control.
His vision for the metaverse and the company’s evolving focus on virtual reality and augmented reality technologies solidify his influence over Meta’s strategic direction.
Who Controls Facebook?
As of my last knowledge update in 2023, Mark Zuckerberg retained significant control over Meta Platforms, Inc., making him the de facto leader of the company.
The combination of his share ownership and voting rights made him the dominant force in shaping the company’s policies and decisions.
However, it’s essential to note that corporate structures and leadership can evolve, so the situation may have changed since then.

His influence and control over the social media giant have allowed him to shape its direction and respond to the challenges posed by issues like misinformation and harmful content.
The controversies surrounding Zuckerberg’s journey in the tech world, including disputes with co-founders and early investors, have underscored the complex interplay of power and innovation in the world of social media.
